One hundred thirty (130) Filipinos showed their Health QR Code, had their body temperature checked, and donned facial masks as they entered the Philippine Consulate General grounds on 20 June to celebrate the 123rd Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence.
A Thanksgiving Mass was officiated by Rev. Fr. Zhou Fei, a Chinese Catholic priest who also celebrates the Sunday Masses for Filipinos in Xiamen.
Filipinos listened with full attention to the messages of DFA Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. who called for unity and commend Filipino front liners for their selfless service and gentle nurture and of His Excellency, President Rodrigo Duterte who urged Filipinos to emulate our national heroes and be heroes in their own right amidst the pandemic.
The ‘hopes of tomorrow’, Filipino youths Lakan Kalinaw Hernandez, Elijah Jerald Rodriguez, Lhoren Legatam, and Francis Emmanuel Bautista took center stage as Francis reads an excerpt of the Message of DFA Secretary Locsin.
In her message to the Filipinos present, Acting Head of Post Elaine Mae V. Laruan-Hernandez conveyed her appreciation to the cooperation of Filipinos in Fujian and Jiangxi Provinces.
The day’s Program also included Awards for Filipinos who were “Best Dressed” in their Filipiniana costumes.
Passport services and overseas voting registration were available during the celebration. Fourteen (14) Filipinos registered for overseas voting while nine (9) requested for the renewal of their passports. END
