 Xiamen, 5 November 2021 --- Ms. Maria Antonina M. Mendoza-Oblena, career diplomat, lawyer and artist, assumed her tasks as the 8th Consul General of the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen effective 4 November 2021.

PCG personnel warmly welcomed the new Consul General and expressed their appreciation for the Acting Head of Post Vice-Consul Elaine Mae V. Laruan-Hernandez who took over the reins of heading the Consulate upon the departure of the previous Consul General, Mr. Julius Caesar A. Flores, in November of 2019.

Prior to her posting in Xiamen, Consul General Oblena was assigned as Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General of the Philippine Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark which she opened in January 2019.  She was also assigned as Minister and Consul General of the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur from September 2012 to September 2016.  Her other foreign assignments include Moscow, Russia and Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Consul General Oblena finished two Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Education and Piano (both cum laude) at the Conservatory of Music of the University of Santo Tomas (1992 and 1993, respectively) and a Juris Doctor degree at the Ateneo Law School (1999).  She passed both the Philippine Bar Examination and the Philippine Foreign Service Examination in 1999 and the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Career Minister Examination in 2014.

She is married to Dinno M. Oblena, a fellow Foreign Service Officer currently assigned as Minister and Consul General of the Philippine Embassy in Beijing.
