Fuzhou, 22 November 2021 --- Consul General Maria Antonina M. Mendoza-Oblena paid a courtesy call on Fujian Province’s government officials on 22 November 2021 at C&D’s Lakeside Hotel in Fuzhou.

Fujian’s Executive Vice-Governor and Member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Fujian Provincial Committee, Madame Guo Ningning, Deputy Secretary General of Fujian Provincial Government Mr. You Side, and Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial Government Mr. Chen Chuxin met with Consul General Mendoza Oblena and her team.

Consul General Mendoza-Oblena acknowledged that Fujian Province is a well-known hometown of overseas Chinese in the Philippines and expressed admiration for the tenacity and ingenuity of Chinese from the Fujian Province who became successful business people in the Philippines. She also recalled that the Philippines’ national hero and former Presidents Corazon and Benigno Aquino, and even the current President, Rodrigo Duterte, traced their ancestral roots back to Fujian Province. 

She also thanked the Fujian Provincial Government for having the Philippines as Guest Country of Honor for 2020 and 2021 during the China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), touted as the “largest and most influential international investment promotion event in the world”, and for providing Philippine Pavilions at the Xiamen International Cross-Border E-Commerce Industry Expo in June 2021 and at the soon-to-be-held Maritime Silk Road Brand Expo to be held at Shishi Clothing City in December 2021. She likewise expressed her gratitude to Fujian’s continued support to Philippine companies situated in the Province.

Responding to Madame Guo’s proposal to enhance friendly relations and people-to-people exchanges, especially between sister cities, Consul General Mendoza-Oblena assured the Fujian Government of the PCG’s support and assistance in this direction.

Madame Guo, on the other hand, highlighted the qualities that Fujian Province can offer to the Philippines and acknowledged the long-standing historical, economic and trade relations between Fujian Province and the Philippines.  She proposed the advancement of trade and investment cooperation between the Philippines and Fujian Province; enhanced cooperation in cultural, tourism and people-to-people exchanges, and enhanced friendly bilateral exchanges especially between sister cities.
