bingo-social-01In the afternoon of 30 October 2011, nearly a hundred Filipinos and foreign friends in Xiamen and nearby cities gathered at the Philippine Consulate General to participate in the annual Bingo Social organized by the Filipino Association in Xiamen (FAX), which was almost cancelled due to an unforeseen event.

Prior to the Bingo Social, the water pipe near the Consulate burst, spewing tank loads of water to the street and flooding the Consulate's compound with ankle-deep muddy water. Fortunately, thirty minutes before the start of the event, the waterflow was stopped and the flood in the PCG compound subsided.

bingo-social-02Through the "bayanihan" of the Filipino community and the Consulate officers and staff present at that time, the muddy PCG compound was cleaned and all was set for the Bingo event, as scheduled.

Moreover, Post took advantage of this gathering to campaign for the resumption of Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) registration in preparation for the 2013 Senatorial Elections. In his speech Consul General Adelio Angelito S, Cruz announced that the OAV registration would start on 02 November 2011 and last until 31 October 2012. He encouraged all Filipinos present to come and register in order for them to exercise their right to vote. Post also distributed print-outs of info material on the OAV. END
