Xiamen City, 10 March 2022 --- Mr Binson Uy, Chief Export Officer of Sunnjef Plantation Inc. presented to Consul General Maria Antonina M. Mendoza-Oblena of PCG Xiamen, on 9 March 2022, samples of Cavendish bananas being exported by SPI to various traders in China, as a fitting proof of and tribute to SPI’s firm commitment to trade only good-quality goods to China and to the rest of the world.
SPI began in 2016 with the goal of producing and trading goods like bananas. SPI manages and owns 500 hectares of Cavendish bananas. It is owned by the Floresta family of Davao. The bananas, still green when it left the SPI Plantation in North Cotabato, underwent strict phytosanitary procedures. They are kept at standard cool temperature so that they won’t ripen and rot during transport.
In 2019, the Philippines is world’s 2nd largest exporter of bananas, most of them coming from Mindanao. China is the top export market for Philippine bananas in 2018 and 2019 but the numbers are falling in 2020 due to strict competition among our ASEAN neighbors. END
