12 June 2022 (Sunday) The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen, together with the members of the Filipino community, held a flag ceremony in celebration of the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
The singing of the Philippine national anthem was led by Consular Attaché Ms. Regina de la Fuente with Consul General Maria Antonina M. Mendoza-Oblena on the piano while the national anthem of China was led by the local staff of the Consulate with Ms. Yang, Zixuan on the piano.
In her address, Consul General Maria Antonina M. Mendoza-Oblena conveyed to the Filipino community the projects and activities conducted by the Consulate General in the previous year and the first half of 2022 and sought the Filcom’s support and cooperation for its future plans.
Vice Consul Elaine Mae V. Laruan-Hernandez then delivered a brief trivia about the historical background of the Philippine Independence Day.
To cap the simple but meaningful event, the Consulate personnel and the members of the Filipino community took the opportunity to discuss various issues of interest while sharing a traditional Filipino breakfast.
The program was also livestreamed via zoom in order to reach out to more members of the Filipino community.
The flag ceremony was the opening salvo for the Consulate General’s Independence Day Programme of activities. To continue the Independence Day celebrations and to strengthen Philippine-China friendship through music, the Consul General will be performing an online concert with the famous Chinese 5-String Violist, Ms. Jing Yang on Saturday, 18 June 2022, at 3:30 pm via Zoom.
