XIAMEN 9 September 2024 – A delegation headed by Philippine Ambassador to China H.E. Jaime A. FlorCruz, and Trade Undersecretary and Board of Investments (BOI) Managing Head Ceferino S. Rodolfo successfully participated in the China International Fair for Investment and Trade 2024 (CIFIT) in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China.

On 8 September 2024, the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen, headed by Consul General Maria Antonina M. Mendoza-Oblena, hosted a Dinner at the W Hotel for the delegation, as well as leaders of the Filipino community and Philippine businesses in Xiamen. In their remarks, Ambassador FlorCruz, Undersecretary Rodolfo, and Philippine Economic Zone Authority Director General Tereso O. Panga spoke of the promising prospects of the Philippine economy, and the world-class hospitality, passion, and resilience of Filipinos. The casual but elegant occasion allowed the Philippine officials to learn from Xiamen-based Filipino community and Philippine business leaders about the overall investment climate for Philippine businesses in China and the conditions of Filipinos in the city and in Fujian Province.

Undersecretary Rodolfo visits The Chancery at No. 4 of Xiamen PCG, headed by Consul General Maria Antonina M. Mendoza-Oblena, and meets the officers and members of the Economic Association of Returnees from the Philippines in Shishi (EARPS).

A Trade delegation headed by Undersecretary Rodolfo went to the Consulate General’s Chancery the next day, where they met the officers and members of the Economic Association of Returnees from the Philippines in Shishi (EARPS). The said Association is composed of Chinese nationals who have either personal or economic links with the Philippines. The delegation, and EARPS officers and members exchanged views on the trade investment incentives and opportunities in the Philippines. EARPS also raised business linkages issues that may need both sides’ collaboration.

The Philippine delegation to CIFIT 2024 resulted in more than Php 4 billion in investment pledges from Chinese firms, and more prospects for Chinese investment exploration and expansion in the Philippines. END
