img1The Philippine Consulate General formally opened on 23 July 2014, a month-long Mabini Exhibit in commemoration of Apolinario Mabini’s 150th Birth Anniversary in its Bulwagang Bagumbayan, a portion of the Consulate General’s ground floor designated as a center for the promotion of Philippine Culture and Arts. It is a repository of materials and resources on Philippine culture, arts and heritage for the promotion of Philippine culture, as well as the education of overseas Filipinos based within its consular jurisdiction

The Mabini Exhibit features original artworks such as a bust of the hero,done by Badz Cabiles Palacio and an original portrait of Mabini done by Rene Robles. A biographical timeline featuring highlights in the hero’s life and a text representation from his work El Verdadero Decalogo (The True Decalogue) completed the exhibit.

In his remarks, Consul General Flores cited Mabini’s valuable contributions to Philippine history, the revolution, the drafting of the Malolos Constitution, and crucial beginnings of the Filipinos’ struggle for self-governance and national identity. The Consul General also noted that Mabini was a man from humble beginnings who rose to prominence because of his innate intelligence and sagacity and ultimately dedicating his life to the cause of Filipino freedom.
