The Filipino Association in Xiamen (FAX), held a charity event on 17 August 2014 by visiting the Xiamen Lily Garden Home, a charitable institution for elderly Chinese in Gulangyo Island, Xiamen City.

Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores, led a group of at 27 FAX officers and members and and six foreign volunteers in giving a day of entertainment, fun and gifts to the elderly residents of the hospice. A Filipino band, performed several songs, including some Chinese songs, to the delight of the elderly residents.

ConGen Flores, in a brief message, spoke about the Philippines as a caring and sharing society, underlying the Filipinos’ core value of taking care of their elders as demonstrated by the initiative taken by FAX to hold such an event. FAX was commended for organizing the event which exemplifies people-to-people contacts and thereby strengthening friendship and understanding between Fujian and the Philippines.

Miss Liu, the nursing home’s administrator, expressed appreciation for the initiative of the Filipinos to show their compassion and kindness to the elderly even for a day. The hospice residents, who are already in their 80’s and 90’s, were visibly moved by the gesture shown by the Filipinos and their fellow volunteer friends. END
