ConGen Flores and Thai ConGen Phornmongkol pose with training participants at Jimei University during the ASEAN Diplomacy Forum

Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores lectured on “ASEAN Diplomacy – The Philippine Perspective” during the ASEAN Diplomatic Training at the Jimei University, Jimei City, Fujian Province on 12 September 2014.

ConGen Flores welcomed the participants from ASEAN member countries, including the Philippines, with other non-ASEAN member countries represented like Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Congen Flores gave the historical account of the establishment of the Consulate General in Xiamen, including the opening of the Chinese Consulate in Cebu and the visits of Presidents Corazon Aquino (1998) and Noynoy Aquino (2011) in Fujian.

He underscored that Xiamen/Fujian is the most historically and culturally linked with majority of the overseas Chinese in the Philippines. He also highlighted the many facets of the work of the Consulate General covering political, economic and public diplomacy functions.

Thai Consul General Pachuen Phornmongkol also made a presentation.

The program is on its second edition and provides an excellent vehicle for people-to-people exchanges between Fujian Province and ASEAN member countries. END
