The Philippine Consulate General, led by Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores, attended the 1st  Annual Food and Wine Festival held at the World Trade Center in Quanzhou City on 7 November 2015.  The festival, entitled “A Bite of Quanzhou”, aimed to provide an introduction to food cultures of countries and regions along the “Maritime Silk Road”.  It was a sub-event of the 2nd Maritime Silk Road International Arts Festival and the 14th Asia Arts Festival.

The opening ceremony was attended by Quanzhou City Vice Mayor Chen Rongzhou, Deputy Consul General Mr. Mongkul Sinsomboon, Vice Consul Phua Yen Chen and the World Trade Center General Manager Mr. Huang Rongcheng.  

In his remarks, Vice Mayor Chen explained that Quanzhou as host of the Festival, and being a “culture city” of East Asia seeks to enhance its international image as well as to pursue exchanges on culture, mutual understanding and friendship between Quanzhou and foreign countries.

Consul General Flores thanked Vice Mayor Chen for Quanzhou City’s hosting of the Festival and underscored that it provides a valuable opportunity to nurture “bridges of friendship and understanding” between China and its neighbors, including the Philippines.

Twelve (12) countries participated in the Festival showcasing their culinary delights and nine products in outdoor booths.   Also featured were cultural performance from participating countries throughout the event.  END
