As part of its activities for Gender and Development (GAD) for year 2015, the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen organized a seminar on Financial Literacy on 13 December 2015 at the Consulate General’s Bulwagang Bagumbayan. 

Ms. Rosita Tan, Consultant for the Philippine National Bank (PNB) and Board Supervisor for Allied Commercial Bank in Xiamen, delivered a lecture on financial literacy and financial management.

Ms. Tan emphasized that remittances perform a vital and crucial role in increasing savings and investments. Redounds to the economic growth and development of the Philippines. The value of remittances as an important source of development can also be harnessed if the remitter or the overseas Filipino and the beneficiaries channel the funds efficiently to productive endeavors. She also highlighted the importance of saving and presented various investment options.

The message on saving and proper financial management has been echoed by the Consul General in his remarks. He highlighted the role of remittances as an essential tool for development and encouraged everyone to be financial literate to improve one’s life and achieve goals and aspirations. 

Prior to Ms. Tan’s lecture, a video clip from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, entitled “Paghahanda sa Kinabukasan” was shown as an introductory to the subject matter.

The audience, comprised of 60 people, mostly professionals, actively participated in the open forum. Later that day, they expressed their sincere appreciation to the Consulate General for having conducted the said lecture.  END.
