Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores together with the officers and staff of Xiamen PCG and their families visited Jiyang Town in Datian County, Sanming City on 24 March 2016 upon the official invitation of Sanming City and its Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (FOCAO).
The PCG team was met and hosted by Sanming City officials led by Sanming FOCAO Director General Jiang Ming, Datian County Deputy Head Dai Shaosong, Jiyang Town CPC Party Secretary Lin Fanqing and other Municipal and Party officials.
The delegation toured major points of historical and cultural interests in Jiyang Town, regarded as a Fujian heritage site including the Fengyang Fortress, the Lianhua Temple, the First street – also known as the Old Street which is the only channel/road connecting Northwest Fujian with South Fujian, the Heshan and Jinyun Houses as well as the Wanshi Chinese Painting Institute, Jiyang Branch. These iconic structures were built during different epochs of ancient China reflecting the rich and diverse heritage of the town. Sanming City is developing the town as a major tourist destination, particularly with the forthcoming construction of a hotel in the midst of Jiyang town.
The visit included a climb to the top of Daishan Peak a major destination for hikers and nature lovers providing a panoramic view of Datian County and surrounding villages.
The tour was a valuable opportunity to renew friendship and cooperation with Sanming City and enhance people-to-people contacts as well as for Post’s officers, staff and their families to familiarize with the history and culture of Fujian Province particularly Sanming City, some 285 kilometers north of Xiamen City.
Sanming City was always represented during Post’s major events in Xiamen, particularly at the annual commemoration of the Declaration of Philippine Independence Day dinner receptions. END
