The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen held a lecture on “Local Labor and Immigration Laws” on 10 April 2016 at the Consulate General’s Bulwagan Bagumbayan, (National Heroes Hall) as part of the Consulate General’s Gender and Development (GAD) Program in commemoration of the National Women’s Month/International Women’s Day..
As part of its Gender and Development (GAD) program, the Consulate General invited the officers and members of the Filipino Community in Fujian and Jiangxi Provinces to “Lectures on Local Labor and Immigration Laws”, particularly on acquiring work visas for foreigners and implications of working as OFWs/HSWs in China. The Consulate General considers the topic for the lectures all timely and relevant since recent data indicates that the number of apprehended illegal migrants under its jurisdiction are all females and had increased in the last several years.
In his remarks, Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores highlighted the commemoration of National Women’s Month and International Women’s Day citing the accomplishments of women throughout the world, and particularly, the importance of women empowerment in nation-building. The Consul General commended the hardworking women of the Filipino Community in Fujian and Jiangxi provinces and their valuable contributions to the country.
The resource speakers at the event were Consul Ria E. Gorospe and Mr. Jose Noel H. Antivola of Yingke Vensco Law Office-Xiamen. Consul Gorospe lectured on the procedures on the processing of exit visa/clearance and the legal implications of illegal residence/stay and illegal employment in China. Mr. Antivola is the Foreign Investment Director, South China Market of the Vensco law firm (China’s largest). He focused his discussion on his experiences as an OFW as well as pertinent information on obtaining work visas in China and also starting business in China for foreigners.
The event also provided valuable opportunity for the Consulate General to launch the dissemination of the leaflet (the template provided by Beijing PE during the Consular Consultations last January) on ATN Reminders for Filipinos in China which contains useful information for Filipinos living, working or travelling in China.
