The 5th Nanyang Culture Festival successfully held its Film Festival on 23 April 2016 at the Science and the Arts Center of Xiamen University.
 
Four (4) ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand) participated in the film screenings which was aimed at the youth sector to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the rich and diverse cultures of the ASEAN countries.
 
The Philippines entered two films, namely:  “Bamboo Flowers” and “Sonata”.  These were earlier shown in the 1st Silk Road International Film Festival in Xi’an Shaanxi Prince in 2014.  The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen obtained these films through the support of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
 
The event’s launching was graced by the Secretary General of ASEAN-China Centre Madame Yang Xiuping, Xiamen Vice Mayor Ms. Ni Chao, the Consulates General of the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand and other VIP guests.The Singapore film entitled “Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen” opened the film screenings which was preceded by an introduction presented by the director himself, Jack Neo.
 
The Philippine entries were both shown at Xiamen University’s campuses in Xiamen and Xiang’an. END
