Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores led the kick-off activities for the celebration of the 118th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence with a flag raising ceremony at its grounds on 12 June 2016 together with the Consulate General’s officers, staff, dependents, Filipino Association in Xiamen (FAX) President Mr. Edward Tenorio and FAX members. The flag raising ceremony was followed by a community breakfast and film showing of the movie “El Presidente” (The Story of General Emilio Aguinaldo and the First Philippine Republic).

In his National Day message, Consul General Flores emphasized that the annual commemoration aims to pay tribute to the country’s forefathers for their patriotism and bravery in their struggle to gain independence from the Filipino nation colonial masters as well as instill the important values of unity and nationhood.  The undersigned also made a brief introduction of the movie “El Presidente”, stressing the significance of historical movies which rekindle our patriotism and awareness of the annals of Philippine history as well as generate inspiration from the lives and accomplishments of national heroes.

The major highlight of the Consulate General’s commemorative activities this year is the Independence Day Reception cum Piano Concert of Dr. Raul Sunico, President, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) slated on the 22nd June 2016.

On the 24th, the Consulate General has also organized a wreath-laying event at the Rizal Memorial Park in Jinjiang City on the occasion of the annual birth anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal in coordination with local authorities.

The Consulate General, in tandem with FAX and the Filipinos in China (FINCH), will hold the Independence Day celebrations with the Filipino community on 19 June 2016. END
