The Filipinos in China (FINCH), a Filipino organization based in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province organized a sportsfest, entitled “Paliga ng Bayan 2016, which was held at the recreational hall of SM in Jinjiang City, Fujian Province on 18 September 2016.

Consul General Flores commended FINCH for organizing the sports event to enable Filipinos from all over Fujian Province to get together and forge unity, friendship and camaraderie. Consul General Flores informed everyone that the Consulate General brought its team to participate in the sports events but as well as to provide outreach services (including registration, passporting and others) which are necessary for emergency assistance, particularly ATN cases.

Around 150 OFWs from Quanzhou, Shishi, Jinjiang, Fuzhou and Xiamen cities participated who were divided into four teams (Red, Blue, White and Yellow Teams) which competed in basketball (men and women), volleyball (women) badminton, (mixed doubles), obstacle race, and tug-of-war.

The Yellow Team emerged victorious as the overall champion while the White, Blue, and Red Teams took the second, third and fourth places, respectively.

The Consulate General believes that the recent event contributed to the unification as well as enhancing the friendship and camaraderie among Filipinos in Fujian. END
