The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen reports that the Manila-Xiamen International School (MXIS) successfully organized “World Cultures Through A Parade of Nations” program in observance of the United Nations Day 2016 at the MXIS Gymnasium on 29 October 2016.

In his inspirational message, Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores commended the MXIS for this annual endeavor in promoting the United Nations through the observance of UN Day, underscoring the vital importance of maintenance of world peace and stability, itself the major mandate of the UN. Consul General Flores gave an overview of the work of the UN by identifying its major organizations and functions, exemplifying that even air travel and regulations as well as passports of all nationalities are governed by a UN agency, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The audience was encouraged to obtain a better appreciation of the work and operations of the UN system in addressing the many complex issues and concerns imparting on contemporary human life.

Dressed in the national costumes of selected UN member countries, the students showcased their talents and skills in song-and-dance performances before a huge and excited crowd of parents, guests and their schoolmates.

MXIS is an educational institution owned and managed by Engr. and Dr. Roman Go as a non-profit, non-stock, fully foreign-owned and independent school which was the first international school established in Xiamen in 1993.

MXIS is one of the Consulate General’s valuable partners in pursuing its various thrusts, especially cultural and public diplomacy efforts in which MXIS faculty members participated in Post’s cultural events to promote the Philippines in Xiamen (Nanyang Festival, among others) as well as in tandem with the Filipino community in Xiamen.
