The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen reports that Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores attended the opening program and dinner for “World Cities Day Forum” hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China, UN-Habitat, Fujian Provincial Government at the International Multi-Function Hall, Xiamen International Conference Center Hotel on 31 October 2016.
The Xiamen Municipal Government organized the said event with the China Association of Mayors, Urban Planning Society of China, Shanghai Coordination Center of World Cities Day as co-organizers.
Representatives from UN-Habitat and relevant sectors of UN member countries gathered in Xiamen to discuss and share the values in the development of cities around the world, with the theme of “Inclusive Cities, Shared Development”.
Consul General Flores together with the Consuls General of Thailand and Singapore and other distinguished guests, government officials and members of United Nations witnessed the signing of the Urban Development-Xiamen Initiative which focuses on 8 common initiatives to support and respond to the New Urban Agenda and the relevant resolutions adopted by the recently concluded United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III).
The UN-Habitat is the United Nations programme working towards a better urban future with a mission to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adequate shelter for all. END
