The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen reports the successful launching ceremony of the Philippine-Fujian Week 2017 at the Wyndham Grand Hotel Xiamen on November 30, 2016.
Local government officials, private & business sector representatives, media practitioners and other distinguished guests from Fujian and other parts of China as well as private sector delegations from the Philippines attended the event. An estimated 500 guests were present to witness the launching ceremony and press conference.
The Philippine-Fujian Week is scheduled to take place on 22-29 March 2017 in Manila which is envisioned to provide a valuable platform to further promote cooperation and linkages between the Philippines and Fujian among business and trade, culture and arts and tourism sectors which will contribute further in strengthening of relations between these two regions as well as the Philippines and China.
As a pioneering event in the annals of Philippine-Fujian relations, the Philippine-Fujian Week will be highlighted by an opening program cum dinner reception, food festival, photo exhibit, a business forum/matchmaking activity and a visit to an economic zone.
In his message, Consul General Flores conveyed his deep appreciation to the Consulate General’s partners, public and private sectors in Fujian and in the Philippines, especially the Philippine-China Friendship and Cooperation Association (led by Mr. Jaime Co of Biogen Pharma Co.) and Chinatown TV-Philippines (led by Executive Producer Ms. Lolita Ching) in spearheading collective efforts in the staging of Philippine-Fujian Week in March 2017.
Among the distinguished guests present from the Philippines was Dr. James Dy, an eminent businessman and philanthropist, (President of the Philippine Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Philippine Charitable Association), who encouraged Fujian businessmen in his message to develop keen interest and pursue trade and investment opportunities in the Philippines.
Representatives from Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) were also present led by Atty. Victorio N. Casauay, Consultant, Office of the Chairman/SBMA, who made a powerpoint presentation on the Special Economic Zone.
The event was covered by Quanzhou TV (Chinatown TV’s partner) as well as other Fujian-based media representatives such as HK TV.
The Consulate General will work closely with its partners in the preparations for this milestone event, to ensure full support and cooperation as well as participation from all relevant sectors. END
