The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen reports that a 24-member delegation from Cagayan de Oro City officials led by Mayor Oscar S. Moreno called on Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores on 10 January 2017 at the Consulate General’s Bulwagang Bayan, Heroes Hall. Among the members of the delegation were Vice Mayor Rainier Uy, 6 City Councilors, technical staff and members of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce – Cagayan de Oro City Chapter.

The delegation was transiting in Xiamen following their official visit in Harbin City, China to celebrate the 10th year of their sister city partnership forged in 2007 and to witness the China Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival 2017.

Mayor Moreno revealed that they visited Xiamen to explore possible partnership and areas of cooperation with the city. Consul General Flores informed Mayor Moreno that Cebu-Xiamen are sister cities for last 32 years and that Xiamen pursues 35 other partnerships from around the world. Consul General Flores recommended that they visit Xiamen again (with Consulate General’s assistance) to explore areas of cooperation and possibly forge other forms of partnership.

The Fujian Southeast Net, a Chinese media group, was also present to cover the call of the delegation. The TV crew interviewed both Consul General Flores and Mayor Moreno who both expressed optimism on the relations of the Philippines and China and looked forward to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation between the Philippines and China on one hand, and on the other between Xiamen and Cagayan de Oro City.
