In commemoration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s 156th birth anniversary in the hometown of his ancestors in Jinjiang, Fujian Province, Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores led a small delegation of Philippine Consulate General’s officers and Tawid Heritage Center representatives as well as Jinjiang Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (FOCAO) officials for a wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal Memorial Park in Jinjiang.
The ceremony was followed by a turn-over of books, album of rare photographs and other Rizal memorabilia to the Jinjiang City Museum and Library, donated by the Tawid Heritage Center led by Dr. Evelyn Cabanban.
The delegation was provided a tour of Wudanshi Heritage Park showcasing Jinjiang’s traditional architecture, artcraft and cuisine.
During the lunch hosted by the Jinjiang Government led by local CPC leader Mr. Lin Yousong, Consul General Flores expressed appreciation to Jinjiang City for maintaining regularly the sprawling Rizal Park as well as support for the setting up of a Rizal Showroom. More importantly, Consul General Flores further reiterated the proposed twinning of Calamba and Jinjiang cities and Calamba Citiy’s invitation for Jinjiang officials to visit Calamba.
Mr. Su Zhi Hong of the Overseas Chinese, Taiwanese, and Foreign Affairs Bureau of Jinjiang City, in turn expressed Jinjiang’s continuous support for the endeavors of the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen, including the proposed twinning partnership END
