In commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN in August 2017, ASEAN students enrolled in various universities in Xiamen co-organized the “South East Asia Culture Night” at the Xiamen Youth Association Building, Xiamen City on 29 April 2017.
The event was successfully organized by the students enrolled in Xiamen University, Huaquiao University and Jimei University in collaboration with their respective Consulates General and communities in Xiamen, and with the Xiamen Youth Association and Returned Overseas Chinese Association – Xiamen Chapter.
Garbed in the national costumes of selected ASEAN member countries, the students showcased their talents and skills in several song-and-dance performances before a huge and excited crowd of guests, schoolmates and the general public. The Filipino students performed a much-applauded medley of dances covering the various regions of the country, amidst the LED backdrop of the major tourist destinations of the Philippines.
In his inspirational message, Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores commended the students for staging the event which highlights the role of the youth as a vital force in ASEAN integration.
Consul General Flores also highlighted the Philippine Chairship in 2017 with the theme “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World” and encouraged the students as “Ambassadors of Goodwill” in their own right to contribute and help in promoting ASEAN and its rich and diverse cultural heritage END
