The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen successfully launched the Fujian Food Festival at the Café in the Park, Century Park Hotel Manila on 01 June 2017 which forms part of the Philippine-Fujian Week, a pioneering initiative of the Consulate General in Xiamen under its economic and cultural diplomacy program for 2017 and beyond. The Consulate General regards the event as a valuable platform to enhance friendship, understanding and cooperation between the Philippines and Fujian on one hand, and on the other between the Philippines and China.
Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores underscored the importance of the food festival which aims to promote the unique and authentic flavors of Fujian cuisine among Filipinos as well as to the Filipino-Chinese community in the Philippines.
In brief remarks, Consul General Flores conveyed appreciation to Century Park Hotel for its valuable support and commitment in hosting the event as well as Consulate General’s partner hotel in Xiamen, C & D Hotel, for flying in to Manila four (4) chefs.
The launching program commenced with a traditional Chinese lion dance which was well received by the guests and public diners. Consul General Flores led the symbolic food opening with DTI Undersecretary Nora K. Terrado, FFCCCII President Domingo Yap, Mr. & Mrs. Lucio Tan of LT Group, GM Anthony Tan of Century Park Hotel, Mr. Pan Feng, Cultural Officer of Chinese Embassy in Manila and chefs from C & D Hotel.
The Food Festival showcased an array of authentic Fujian cuisine favorites which also demonstrates Fujian influences in Filipino cuisines.
A raffle draw on 09 June 2017 was held as the culminating activity. Various media outfits covered the event including Chinatown TV and PTV4 while Philippine Star featured the Philippine-Fujian Week (31 May 2017 issue, page B-11).
The Philippine-Fujian Week in Manila was highlighted with the launching of the Photo-Painting-Calligraphy Exhibit at the DFA on 30 May 2017 and the Fujian Food Festival at the Century Park Hotel on 01 June 2017.
A similar culinary event in Xiamen is planned in which chefs from Century Park Hotel will showcase Filipino cuisine in Fujian. END
