Consul General Julius Caesar A. turned over from the Lyceum of the Philippines University the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to Professor Shi Xueqin, Vice Dean, Xiamen University’s Nanyang (Southeast Asia) Institute at the Xiamen University’s Nanyang Institute on 16 June 2017. The College of International Relations/LPU and School of International Relations/Research School for Southeast Asian Studies of Xiamen University have forged an MOU to pursue enhanced cooperation through “expansion of scholarly ties and promote closer academic collaboration”.
Consul General Flores conveyed appreciation to both universities for the collaborative undertaking, “University Road Tour 2016 of Manila’s Universities” and signing the MOU within the framework of the Consulate General’s cultural diplomacy thrusts which will further enhance friendship, understanding and cooperation as well as increase people-to-people contacts between these two academic institutions as well as the Philippines and Fujian on one hand, and on the other between the Philippines and China.
The Consulate General, led by Consul General Flores, in collaboration with Nanyang Institute, earlier conducted the “Forum on Nanyang Institute’s Graduate Programs and Grants for International Studies” in August 2016 held at the Lyceum of the Philippines University/College of International Relations and Diplomacy, University of Santo Tomas (UST)/Asian Studies Department, University of the East (UE)-Manila/International Studies Department, Philippine Women’s University (PWU)/HBZ School of International Relations and Diplomacy and Philippine Normal University (PNU)/Social Science Department which generated great enthusiasm and interest from a total of 1,500 participants.
Xiamen University is a top 20 university in China with 40,000 students, majority of whom are enrolled in its major campus in Xiamen with flagship program in business, engineering, arts and sciences and IT. Nanyang Institute has offered grants and scholarships to students and faculty of Manila universities as part of the cooperation program.
The Consulate General will endeavor to assist LPU concretize the MOU’s program of action as well as encourage other participating Manila universities to accomplish similar MOUs with Xiamen University’s Nanyang Institute. END
