The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen successfully mounted the Construction and Real Estate Investment Forum on 22 and 23 June 2017 in Xiamen and Shishi cities, respectively, as part of its week-long activities commemorating the 119th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence as well as part of its economic diplomacy thrusts.

The Forums were “A Go Philippines Event” and of the “Philippine-Fujian Week II”, as part of the Consulate General’s economic and cultural diplomacy thrusts. These were co-organized with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC)-Guangzhou and Wingli Ventures Corp., Ltd.

The Xiamen leg of the Forum was held at Pullman Hotel while the Shishi leg was held at Aile Crown Holiday Hotel which received a warm and encouraging reception from 50 representatives of local companies and business associations.

Representatives from the three top real estate companies in the Philippines –SMDC (three representatives led by Mr. Angelo Nomat, Sales Director), Ayalaland (two representatives led by Mr. Jose Ramil Gatmaitan, Senior Sales Manager) and Megaworld International (five representatives led by Mr. Danilo Madlansacay, Megaworld Representative to the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and PCCI Chairman for Housing and Construction Committee) made their respective presentations including a backgrounder on the construction and real estate situation in the Philippines as well as a showcase of core projects and what their respective companies could offer to prospective foreign investors.

Mr. Jaime Co, President of Wingli Ventures Corp, which has several infrastructure and investment projects in the Philippines, also made a presentation highlighting his business experiences in the country.

In her remarks, China (Xiamen) Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT-Xiamen) Secretary General You Yuping, expressed appreciation for the initiative undertaken by the Consulate General to bridge Philippine and Fujian businessmen to strengthen economic cooperation as well as to open up to the Chinese market the various opportunities in the Philippines particularly in the construction and real estate investment.

Meanwhile, Shishi Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (FOCAO) Deputy Director General Li Zhixiong also expressed appreciation for the Forum in Shishi, the ancestral town of many successful Filipino businessmen of Chinese descent. He also expressed hope for increased partnership between the Philippines and Fujian Province, particularly Shishi City.

In his concluding remarks, Consul General Flores underscored the great potentials of the construction and real estate sectors in the Philippines, among others, for Chinese investors to take advantage by investing in these sectors. He assured that the Consulate General will initiate similar activities to further strengthen economic cooperation between the Philippines and Fujian Province, encourage business partnerships, as well as increase people-to-people contacts. He also expressed appreciation for the support extended by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Guangzhou, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) of Xiamen and Quanzhou cities, as well as by the above-mentioned Philippine real estate companies END
