Members of the Filipino community in Xiamen City enjoying the “Bo bing” games with their kababayans and their foreign friends.

The Filipino Association in Xiamen (FAX) in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen celebrated the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival on 24 September 2017 with a community get-together and “bo bing (dice) games” at the Consulate General’s grounds.

In her remarks, OIC Elaine Mae Laruan-Hernandez expressed appreciation for the Filipinos and their foreign friends for supporting the FAX social event, which she said is a great opportunity for Filipinos and their friends to get together and experience a Fujian custom that strengthens friendship, understanding and camaraderie with fellow Filipinos and their foreign friends. She also reminded the Filipino community the importance of possessing a valid passport at all times as well as encouraged them to register as overseas voters.

“Bo bing game” is a traditional southern Fujian dice game developed by pirate-cum-patriot Koxinga that dates back to the Ming Dynasty to relieve homesickness and boredom among his troops with prizes ranging from tiny cookies to medium and large mooncakes, with one grand prize – the “Zhuangyuan” cake, the biggest and best mooncake.

The event brought together more than 200 Filipinos and their Chinese and foreign friends from Xiamen City. It is one of FAX’s annual fundraising activities.

The Consulate General supports FAX’s various events held throughout the year that redound to the socio-cultural upliftment of the Filipino community in Xiamen and Fujian Province.
