Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores of the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen during a recent visit in Manila called on newly appointed President, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Arsenio “Nick” J. Lizaso.
Consul General Flores conveyed the Consulate General’s appreciation for CCP’s continued support and cooperation as a valuable partner in implementing its cultural diplomacy thrusts, including the pursuit of cooperation programs with the Southeast Asian Institute and the Arts College of Xiamen University and for the previous visits of CCP’s resident companies, the Madrigal Singers and Ballet Philippines.
Consul General Flores underscored to Mr. Lizaso that Xiamen as well as Fujian and Jiangxi provinces under the Consulate General’s jurisdiction provide vital linkages of history, culture and trade with the Philippines which offer multi-faceted aspects for possible cultural cooperation in the performing and visual arts including Fujian traditional opera, calligraphy, painting, porcelain, puppetry and martial arts.
Mr. Lizaso agreed that indeed given the new chapter in Philippine-Chinese relations (especially Philippine-Fujian relations), cultural cooperation must be strengthened and intensified under the framework of the Philippine-China cultural agreement.
Toward this vital pursuit, Consul General Flores invited Mr. Lizaso to visit Xiamen and Fujian in the near future.
