In commemoration of Cebu-Xiamen Friendship Day, the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen successfully organized a University Road Tour of Cebu in cooperation with Xiamen University’s Nanyang (Southeast Asia) Institute from 24 – 25 October 2017 in Cebu City.

The Tour forms part of the Consulate General’s cultural diplomacy thrusts to enhance people-to-people contacts as well as contribute to the nurturing of relations between Cebu and Fujian on one hand and, on the other, the Philippines and China.

The Tour generated great enthusiasm and keen interest among the officials, faculty and staff from University of San Carlos, Cebu Eastern College, Benedicto College and Ateneo de Cebu, with the latter partner institution hosting a photo exhibit on the “Beauty of Fujian”.

Professor Shi Xueqin, Vice Dean of Xiamen University Nanyang (Southeast Asia) Institute gave a presentation in promoting Xiamen University and its graduate programs and grants for international exchange/cooperation for professors and students. Prof. Shi underscored that the Tour will provide valuable opportunities for Nanyang Institute to explore possible institutional cooperation and linkages with Cebu City universities and colleges.

Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores conveyed appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to the Xiamen delegation as well as the keen interest the Tour generated from the Cebuano hosts. Furthermore, it was underscored that the Tour will also contribute to the nurturing of the sister-city relations between Cebu and Xiamen which shared deep historical, cultural, kinship and economic ties.
