The Philippine Tourism Office in Shanghai (PTO-Shanghai), with the support and cooperation of the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen, successfully launched the 1st English as Second Language (ESL) Forum on 02 November 2017 at the Grand China Ballroom, Kempinski Hotel, Xiamen City.
The event was attended by at least 80 representatives from various educational institutions, tour operators and the media in Xiamen City.
In his welcome remarks, Consul General Flores highlighted the advantages of ESL program in the Philippines such as the high percentage of Filipinos with good command of the English language, highly qualified teachers and modern facilities coupled by world-class tourist destinations for the English students to enjoy in-between their English lessons. He also underscored the proximity of the Philippines to Fujian province making it ideal for young Chinese students to visit with their parents or family members.
Mr. Edmund Yap, Business Development Manager, ADEC Innovations (Xiamen), made a presentation highlighting his company’s success in online education in China as well as the great potential of the Chinese market for English proficiency programs.
The ESL delegation led by Ms. Marrisa Masangkay, DOT-ESL Market Development Group, visited educational institutions in Xiamen including ADEC Innovations (engaged in online education, among others) Jimei University, Xiamen Jingyinrui Education Consulting Co., Ltd. (man-to-man review center for junior and senior high school students), and Sesame Street English (which caters to children ages 4 to 12), with the aim of forging cooperation with the said institutions particularly in sending their students to the Philippines for an ESL program cum tourism. The visits were arranged by the Consulate General in coordination with ADEC Innovations.
In view of the success of this Forum, the Consulate General will collaborate with the Philippine Tourism Office in Shanghai and ADEC Innovations to organize Fujian and Jiangxi-wide ESL Forum in 2018
