The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen successfully launches the “Beauty of Fujian” held at 2L Atrium, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City on 16 April 2018 which ran until 22 April 2018.
The exhibition, which was well received by Filipino and Chinese guests as well as the general public, is a mainstreaming activity under the Consulate General’s cultural diplomacy program aimed to promote Fujian province in the Philippines. It forms part of the Philippine-Fujian Week series of activities that seeks to further enhance friendship, understanding and cooperation between the Philippines and Fujian on one hand, and on the other between the Philippines and China.
The Exhibit featured the works of “Foto-Grupo”, a group of Filipino photo hobbyists based in Fujian organized by the Consulate General under its cultural diplomacy thrusts. The Exhibit showcased the first-hand impressions of different locations in Fujian province documented by “Foto-Grupo”, namely Messrs. Bong Antivola, Dan Osillos, Dixx Gatpo and Cocoy Declaro.
Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores led the ribbon-cutting with VIP guests including. Former Ambassador to the Holy See, Hon. Mercedes A. Tuason, Chinese Consul General Luo Gang; Mr. Delfin Beltran, Vice President, Federation of Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FFCCCII); Dr. Evelyn F. Cabanban, President, Tawid Heritage Center (THC), Dr. William Co, President, Philippine Colleges and Universities China Studies Association (PCUCSA); Mr. Ian Mathay, AVP for SM Megamall and Mr. Allan Brosas, SAVP/SM.
Members of Filipino-Chinese business community, media representatives and other guests were also in attendance.
Consul General Flores expressed appreciation to SM Megamall Management Team in recognition of their valuable support for the successful staging of the exhibit, being the first mall in the Philippines to host the exhibit.
The Exhibit was jointly organized by the Consulate General through the Office of the Undersecretary for International Economic Relations – Cultural Diplomacy Unit (OUIER-CDU), Foto-Grupo, Tawid Heritage Center and SM Megamall.
The photo collection earlier debuted in an exhibition in Xiamen last March 2017, subsequently at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Main Office in June 2017, at the University of the East – Manila in early October and in Cebu City from October – November 2017/January 2018 and most recently at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in January 2018.
