The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen, in cooperation with the Filipino Association in Xiamen (FAX) successfully held on 27 May 2018, the 2018 Independence Day - FilCom Event at the Manila-Xiamen International School (MXIS) multi-purpose hall.
Close to 300 members of the Filipino community from Fujian province including OFWs, students and guests attended the event The half-day event included a Catholic mass service, program, “salu-salo” lunch, parlor games and entertainment.
In his Independence Day remarks, Consul General Flores underscored that given this years’ Independence Day theme. the event was an opportunity for the Filipinos in Fujian province to renew their spirit of patriotism and called on the Filipinos in Fujian province to be united and work together with the aim of helping not only their families in the Philippines but the country as a whole in its push for growth and development.
He also took the opportunity to formally launch the official WeChat account of the Consulate General in its effort to better serve the Filipino community in Fujian and Jiangxi provinces specially those in distressed situation. The Filipino community was informed that said social media platform is open to all Filipinos in Fujian and Jiangxi provinces and to be used only for inquiries related to their work and the Consulate General’s services and in emergency cases only. Consul General Flores also appealed for the Filipinos to be respectful and responsible in using the PCG’s WeChat account and to avoid posting unnecessary postings and comments.
