Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores led the participation of the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen on 18-19 June 2018 in Calamba City’s annual BUHAYANI Festival to commemorate Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s 157th Birth Anniversary as a contribution to the enhancement of the Friendship Accord between Calamba and Jinjiang cities.
On 18 June 2018, Calamba City Mayor Justin Marc SB Chpieco, Congressman Joaquin Chipeco and Consul General Flores led Calamba City officials and guests in the opening of the “Beauty of Fujian” photo exhibit at Calamba City Hall’s Main Foyer. The exhibition, with special focus on Jinjiang City’s Rizal Park, comprise the collective works of Fujian-based Filipino photo-hobbyists organized as Foto-Grupo.
Consul General Flores delivered a lecture on “Rizal’s Fujian Ancestry and German Influences” along with a presentation by Dr. Evelyn F. Cabanban, President of Tawid Heritage Center, on “Rizal’s Music and the Philippine Revolution”. Tawid Heritage Center is Consulate General’s cultural diplomacy partner.
The following day, Consul General Flores attended the Wreath-laying Ceremony at the Rizal Park and also the commemorative program held subsequently at the Rizal Shrine in Calamba City.
Jinjiang City is the ancestral roots of Dr. Rizal’s forefathers, Cua Yi Lam or Domingo Lam-co, who migrated to the Philippines and settled in Calamba in 1697.
