In commemoration of the 120th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence and Dr. Jose Rizal’s 157th birth anniversary, Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores led wreath-laying rites on 06 July 2018 at the Rizal Memorial Shrine in Jinjiang City, Fujian Province.
Consul General Flores and Mr. Su Zhihong, Deputy Director General, Jinjiang Overseas Chinese, Taiwanese and Foreign Affairs Bureau (OCTFAB) led the solemn wreath laying ceremony along with other FOCAO and Consulate General’s staff.
The ceremony was followed by a visit to the ancestral home of Rizal located in Siongque Village, Jinjiang City to pay tribute and homage to Rizal and the Chinese people. The descendants of Rizal’s clan warmly welcomed Consul General Flores and the delegation from Jinjiang OCTFAB. Mr. Shi Rongjin, Deputy Party Secretary of Xintang Street Administration office arranged the said visit.
Consul General Flores also turned over the donation of Mr. Rene Robles’ 4’ x 4’ canvas painting entitled “Rizal Treating His Mother’s Eyes” to the Jinjiang City Museum Rizal’s Corner which will serve as a tribute and inspiration on the life and works of Rizal as well as his Chinese lineage to the general public. The painting will serve to enrich the Museum’s Rizal Corner.
Consul General Flores expressed appreciation to DDG Su and underscored the vital role of the Jinjiang City government in maintaining and preserving the Rizal Memorial Park, regarded as the enduring symbol of friendship and understanding between the Philippines-Fujian-China.
