The Xiamen Municipal Government and the Xiamen Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (FOCAO) invited the Consular Corps in Xiamen, consisting of the Philippine, Thai, and Singapore Consulates General, to a tour of the Photo Exhibition Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening up in Xiamen City, located at the Xiamen Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Memorial Hall, and to the 2019 New Year Briefing for Consular Corps at the Conrad Hotel in Xiamen on 17 January 2019
Xiamen Municipal Vice Mayor Han Jingyi delivered the briefing and hosted the dinner for the Consular Corps. Xiamen FOCAO Director General Li Xiaoping welcomed the representatives from the three Consulates General, and expressed his pleasure to once again meet representatives from all three Consulates General for the Annual New Year Briefing.
As part of his briefing, Vice Mayor Han detailed Xiamen’s technological, industrial, environmental, and socio-economic successes for the year 2018. He informed the assembled guests that Xiamen is well on its way to be a prosperous, modern, safe, and truly international city. Vice Mayor Han also charted the city’s development plan for 2019, which includes attracting more private investment, pushing forward economic programs, opening up to its neighbors and to the rest of the outside world, and safeguarding people’s lives and livelihood.
Consuls General Julius Caesar Flores of the Philippines, Chi Chiew Sum of Singapore, and Karntimon Ruksakiati of Thailand in turn provided a review of each Consulate General’s successes in terms of its bilateral relations with Xiamen. Each Consul General hailed the impressive transformation of Xiamen from a humble fishing village to a modern and attractive city.
