The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen has successfully turned-over the donation of a life-sized wooden statue of Dr. Jose Rizal to the Jinjiang City Museum on Thursday, 05 September 2019 in line with the recent commemoration of Philippine National Heroes Day. The statue will form part of the Museum’s Rizal corner where other Rizaliana are on display.

Done by artist par excellence, Mr. Ireneo “Rene” SA. Robles, Jr., the donation was made possible through the generosity of Hon. Luis “Chavit” Singson, Mayor, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur.

In a simple ceremony, Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores turned-over the statue to Mr. Huang Wen Fu, CPC Jinjiang Committee Member/Chairman, Jinjiang Overseas Friendship Association and witnessed by Mr. Wu Jinpeng, Jinjiang City Museum Director.

Mr. Huang warmly received the donation and expressed appreciation and gratitude for the generosity of Mayor Singson as well as commended the Consulate General’s continued initiatives to boost the Museum’s collections.

The Rizal statue was donated to the Jinjiang City Museum (Rizal corner) under the framework of the Consulate General’s cultural diplomacy program and in consonance with its Sentro Rizal (SR) activities. It is expected to enrich the Museum’s collection highlighting the deep and meaningful link between the Philippines and Fujian as well as Rizal’s Filipino - Chinese heritage.

It will also play a valuable role in promoting Philippine history, arts and culture, and greater understanding and appreciation of Rizal as well as contribute towards the enhancement of Philippine-Fujian-China relations.

The Consulate General has donated several items to the Museum over the last several years. Earlier last December, Consul General Flores also turned-over a 4’ x 8’ oil canvas painting of Rizal done by Mr. Robles through the generosity of Mayor Singson.
