The Philippine Consulate General participates at the ASEAN Culture and Artistic Creation (Season1) dubbed as “Charming Xiamen – Cultural Jimei” creative exhibition on 15 September 2019 at the ASEAN Culture and Art Exchange Center in Jimei, Xiamen City as part of the implementation of Xiamen’s “Cultural Jimei" development strategy which will run until 31 October 2019. Jimei is one of Xiamen’s bustling suburbs located across Xiamen island.
Nine (9) original art works of Mr. Ireneo “Rene” Robles, Jr., an internationally renowned and award-winning Filipino visual artist are on display at the exhibit along with more than 200 paintings from more than 30 well-known Chinese and foreign artists from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan.
Mr. Robles pioneered the award-winning movement and style called “Assertionism” in the US which has the “power to assert, transform and transcend” the importance of ordinary objects in human existence (like light bulbs, chairs, doors, electric fans, etc.) into the extraordinary.
Mr. Robles is highly regarded Filipino artist for his valuable contribution in the promotion of Philippine arts and culture through exhibitions of his world-class art works in Xiamen/Fujian.
The exhibit was launched to broaden Jimei people's cultural horizon and promote its tourism culture, under the support of the Party Committee’s Propaganda Department of Jimei District and the District’s Neighborhood Office, and jointly organized by the Thailand ASEAN+6 Business Promotion Association China Office, the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Culture and Art Exchange Center and other government and private sectors in Xiamen.
Among the VIP guests who attended the opening were Mr. Chen Jianrong, Chairman of Jimei District People's Congress, Mr. Lai Zhaohui, Standing Committee Member of CPC Jimei District and Director General of Propaganda Department of Jimei District, Mr. Tang Jinfu, Deputy Director General of Propaganda Department of Jimei District, Mr. He Qingyu, Vice President of Jimei District Literature and Arts Federation among others. Other guests include artists from China and ASEAN countries, art institutions representatives, members of Chamber of Commerce in Xiamen, local media and the academe.
The exhibit provided an excellent platform and opportunity to gather ASEAN & China’s artists, collectors, entrepreneurs, academe and mainstream media to promote cultural heritage, talents as well as people-to-people contacts.
