Xiamen City, 14 September 2020. The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen successfully coordinated the repatriation of eight (8) Filipino seafarers from Fujian Province to the Philippines on 12 September 2020.

The Filipino seafarers have been stranded in the waters of Ningde City, Fujian Province since 20 May 2020 onboard Chinese fishing vessel He Li 1 Hao when they were not allowed to disembark in Singapore on their way to the Philippines due to travel restrictions because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

After months of negotiations between the Chinese employer, the Chinese government, and the Philippine government represented by the Consulate General, the Filipino fishermen were finally repatriated when they were allowed to transfer to another Chinese fishing vessel, Ju Long Jia Ya, that brought them back to Manila.
