28 September 2020, Xiamen City. Sixteen (16) Filipino seafarers stranded in Fujian waters will be repatriated to the Philippines today.
The sixteen (16) stranded seafarers, eleven (11) from Ocean Star 86, and five (5) from Maria P will board a charter flight contracted by the Philippine government solely to bring the stranded seafarers and other similarly-situated Filipinos in Fujian province.
The repatriation took a longer process than usual because of new travel protocols imposed by China to all departing and incoming passengers.
This will be the seventh repatriation initiative undertaken by the Consulate General with the assistance of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila and the Philippine Embassy in Beijing
Vice Consul Elaine Mae V. Laruan-Hernandez will personally send-off the departing Filipinos at the airport later tonigh.
