Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, through a recorded video, extended his congratulations to Huaqiao University’s (HQU) 60th Anniversary during a Ceremony which was held on 01 November 2020 at the Audience Hall, Tan Kah Kee Memorial at HQU’s Quangzhou Campus, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, PROC.

In attendance were Mr. Cai Dafeng, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Chairman of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of HQU; Mr. Qiu Yuanping, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and Deputy Director General of the Committee for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese; Mr. Tan Tianxing, Vice Minister of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee; Mr. Luo Yonggang, Deputy Director General of the Liaison Office of the CPC Macao Committee; Mr. Zhou Lianqing, Member of the Standing Committee of Fujian Provincial Party Committee and other high ranking government officials.

The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen was represented by Acting Head of Post, Vice-Consul Elaine Mae V. Laruan-Hernandez, Cultural Officer Reigfred P. Albello and Local Hire/Interpreter Chunyan Yang.

HQU is a steady partner of the Philippines in promoting friendship, understanding and cooperation through people-to-people exchanges. PNP and PDEA officials have attended an annual foreign language course in this Institution apart from the other university scholars being hosted by the school.

As part of Davao City’s and Jinjiang City’s sister-city agreement (established in 2018), HQU and Ateneo de Davao signed an agreement to establish a Confucius Institute aimed to enhance Philippine-Sino friendship, cultural and educational exchanges.
